For the last few years, the ‘vanilla’ iPhone has been the bestselling smartphone in the world. iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 — all were toned-down variants of the ‘best’ iPhone of that year yet outsold them considerably. The vanilla iPhones didn’t have the best cameras or even the best display but what they had — and it was their biggest USP — was the same processor as the Pro iPhones. Not anymore. It’s a bold move and a gamble on Apple’s part. Here’s why Apple may have taken the decision to use last year’s processor for this year’s vanilla iPhones.
